I see the unseen, unchanging
Invisible you
Shining eternal.
Such celestial gifts impart a heavy price —
I’m perpetually reminded that one day
I will steal my last kiss while you sleep,
I will fold your nightgown one last time,
And I will whisper one final ‘I love you’
Before the veil is lifted.
I will carry you to bed
And I will wash your feet
When the seasons have humbled your bones,
But no amount of time
Can prepare me for your passing.
I’m not a selfish spirit — God knows
I’m aware of what is rightfully His.
Regardless, I cannot help but pray
That when you shed your earthly self
He’ll call me soon thereafter.
Beautiful and to the point without dancing around too much is esotericism you have to look up.
In short: unlike a lot of poetry.
🙂

That was wonderful Doug, really in-touch spiritually. Your wife is your life…such a strong message
Thanks for taking the time to read and comment, Zarius. I appreciate it.
From a spiritual perspective, I do believe that I am forever tied to my wife: “‘…and the two shall become one flesh; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”
If she were to die, then on many levels only half of me would remain. That’s not to say that I could not lead a productive life moving forward, but I most certainly would enjoy being reunited with my other half! 🙂
I enjoyed this poem. It has a great message.
Thanks, Carl. 🙂
Great poem!
