Mizzou gives up ‘poo-swastika’ images after pressure; details make race fiasco more bizarre

Dumb and Dumber bathroom

The University of Missouri really didn’t want to release its police report on the infamous “poo-swastika.” It took an enormous amount of pressure for cave-in to happen, but now that it did the details make its president’s resignation even weirder.

Mizzou officials played it by the book. They did everything a reasonable institution would do in the aftermath of such a report (e.g., contacting the university’s Title IX office, executive director of Mizzou Hillel, and minority communities on campus). They even zeroed in on a suspect.

Here’s where it gets…interesting.

The following feedback was given by Salama Gallimore, the lead investigator in the university’s Title IX office, to Gateway Hall coordinator Susan Cohn. Copies of the email exchanges were obtained by The Federalist.

“We did have a incident that was just reported last week where an intoxicated individual said ‘bitch ass nigga’ to a white resident when having a heated interaction with multiple black residents in the third floor lounge, which is the same floor this bathroom incident happened on. The individual that reported said he was offended by this but felt like it was not directed at him or the other black residents in the lounge. …

The accused student in the above incident has also been reported to have made anti-Semitic remarks to the members of a Jewish fraternity. It is possible that the aforementioned student may be responsible for the swastika vandalism as he is a resident of Gateway. Since the student has allegedly engaged in acts of racism and anti-Semitism, I feel that it is important to consider that the swastika drawn in fecal matter (even if it was not drawn by the student under investigation) was meant to offend and threaten a larger population of our campus community in addition to Jewish students.”

Let us recap so this is abundantly clear:

  • Concerned Students 1950 is upset about Mizzou’s handling of the Oct. 24 “poo-swastika” incident, even though the situation was expeditiously dealt with.
  • A Jewish student gets into an argument with a black student in his dorm — one previously charged with anti-semitic remarks — and days later the poo-swastika appears. (We are never definitively given the suspect’s name or race, but that is the most logical conclusion based on, “an intoxicated individual said ‘bitch ass nigga’ to a white resident when having a heated interaction with multiple black residents.”)
  • The actions by someone who reasonable people will conclude is a black student are used as evidence that black students should not feel safe on campus.
  • The university president resigns Monday, Nov. 9.

What are we left to conclude from this whole fiasco?

Answer: Like human waste smeared on a dormitory wall, Mizzou and its students are an intellectual mess. The teachers are a mess, the administrators are a mess, and the students are a mess.

If you want to get an education, going to an expensive university is probably not the prudent choice in 2015.

Poop Mizzou

Accruing tens-of-thousands of dollars in student loans for the gobbledygook dished out by most institutions is a bad idea. Unless a student places a high value on the nepotism-factor supplied by prestigious universities, it is better to look for the school that respected but easy on the wallet.

Ithaca College students jump on Mizzou race train: Professors now reap what they have sown

Ithaca College

Somewhere in between Gender Studies 101, partying, putting money on meal cards, and sexual exploration, Ithaca College students are allegedly bombarded with racial injustices. Sometimes, people say mean things. It apparently hurts their feelings more than it hurts the skulls and spinal cords of gay men thrown off tall buildings by the Islamic State group in Syria. And so, there must be a “no confidence” vote in Ithaca College president Tom Rochon.

College faculty and staff must now reap what they have sown.

Islamic State gay execution

The Ithaca Journal reported Wednesday:

Members of the campus community walked out Wednesday “for all the injustices students of color face on this campus and other colleges nationally. With University of Missouri’s president stepping down, we demand Rochon to do the same as it is vital to fight against both covert and overt racism in all places of education and empowerment,” according to the event Facebook page.

In a statement issued after the protest, POC at IC said they want to make one thing loud and clear: “We are here, and we demand change.” …

“Diversity and inclusion here at Ithaca College is nothing more than an image,” one protester said into a microphone. Many in the crowd responded with cheers and clapping. …

Those sentiments were echoed by a woman who stood with POC at IC, shouting from Free Speech Rock: “We desire his resignation, not his input.” She went on to list some goals, including Rochon to resign or be removed from his position, a “radical transformative change in government and structure at Ithaca College” and “we want to bring a sense of safety, emotional stability and dignity to the experiences of POC at IC, other marginalized groups and the intersection between us as well as the entire Ithaca College community.”

What is Mr. Rochon’s offense, you ask?

Answer: He is not a member of the Precrime Police Department from “Minority Report.”

There have been several controversial incidents this semester, including a Blue Sky Reimagining Kick Off event in October that was meant to “formulate ideas about the evolution of Ithaca College.” During the event, an alumna on the panel, Tatiana Sy, a woman of color, said she had a “savage hunger” to succeed. However, two other alumni on the panel then referred to Sy as a “savage” throughout the event. Future Blue Sky Reimagining events have been put on hold.

After the Blue Sky event, Rochon issued a statement that he had apologized to Sy and regrets that the event was diminished by “insensitive comments.” He went on to say, “In general, the college cannot prevent the use of hurtful language on campus. Such language, intentional or unintentional, exists in the world and will seep into our community. We can’t promise that the college will never host a speaker who could say something racist, homophobic, misogynistic, or otherwise disrespectful.

Behold, the fragile mind of modern youth — so delicate and brittle that it crumbles with every episodic instance of unwelcome rhetoric. It’s not hard to guess who would be the first to fold in a mainland invasion of America by its future enemies. But I digress.

Tom Rochon Ithaca protest

This is only the beginning. The roller coaster of weird is just pulling out of the gate.

As I said Nov. 9:

The anti-free speech “muscle” of Mizzou had a big win on Monday, which means that its allies on campuses across the country will now seek to duplicate or surpass their ideological peers. I implore any young person attending college to push back twice as hard the next time your wannabe police-state overseers request “muscle” to do their dirty work.

Buckle up, because this roller coaster looks like it will have plenty of twists and turns. And, as always, welcome to the Twilight Zone.

Mizzou president stepped down for ‘poo-swastika’ that no one can prove existed

Wolfe UM

University of Missouri system president Timothy Wolfe resigned on Monday after demands by football players and activists with Concerned Student 1950. It was claimed he didn’t do enough to address racism and bigotry and campus. One of the pieces of evidence in the circumstantial case against him was, bizarrely, a piece of human waste — smeared into a swastika. The only problem: No one can provide evidence it ever existed.

In the age where everyone has a cellphone, Twitter feed, Facebook account, Instagram and Tumblr page, not a single photo of the diarrhea-swastika left in a UM campus dormitory exists. Is there a group of college kids on earth that would allow such an event to escape without photographic evidence? Answer: No.

The Federalist didn’t think so, which is why it began to investigate the alleged Oct. 24 incident.

[Billy Donley, the president of Mizzou’s Residence Halls Association] noted that he only found out about the alleged vandalism incident “via a flyer posted on the walls” of the dorm.

Although Donley did not respond to repeated requests for comment prior to publication, The Federalist spoke with two RHA staffers while trying to get in touch with Donley. Neither had personally witnessed the poop swastika. When asked if there was any photographic evidence of the alleged incident, one staffer replied, “Not to my knowledge.”

Frankie Minor, the director of residential life at Mizzou, did not respond to repeated requests for comment on whether he personally saw the poop swastika or any photographic evidence of it.

The Federalist also attempted to contact Christian Basi, the associate director of the University of Missouri News Bureau, who previously told the Columbia Missourian on Oct. 30 that the incident had been immediately reported to Mizzou police. Basi did not respond to requests for comment prior to the publication of this article.

Calls to the University of Missouri Police Department, which responded to and investigated the alleged poop swastika incident, also failed to yield any evidence of the poopstika.

Here’s where it gets more interesting. The Federalist found online activists using an image as “proof” the incident occurred, but the photo has been floating around Reddit since November 2014. Perhaps racists and bigots have time machines…

The Federalist contacted Concerned Student 1950 for evidence and got nothing. Reporter Sean Davis was left with no other option but to use public records laws to file a request for all reports linked to the poop-swastika.

Now does it become clear why the student activists used “muscle” to force reporters out of their “safe space”? Lies, distortions, exaggerations and hoaxes are in danger of being exposed when questions are allowed to be asked.

And speaking of lies, did you hear the one about Mizzou’s student body president, Payton Head, riling up the entire campus with an imaginary KKK sighting — only to have to apologize hours later? Whoops.

“I’m sorry about the misinformation that I have shared through social media. In a state of alarm, I was concerned for all students of the University of Missouri and wanted to ensure that everyone was safe. I received and shared information from multiple incorrect sources, which I deeply regret,” Head wrote on his Facebook page Tuesday.

Payton Head

Imaginary KKK sightings. A refusal to share evidence of poo-swastikas. Both get national attention, which undoubtedly translates into random idiots who make threats. So then the movement is totally justified, right? Wrong.

Perhaps if we wait a few weeks, then we’ll hear how dead puppies were used to spell out racial epithets in Mizzou’s quad. Just don’t expect activists to take pictures and share them on social media. You’ll just have to take their word for it.
