Jim Harbaugh TweetThe Michigan Wolverines may soon have to change their named to the Michigan Wolver-weenies, but that day will probably not come as long as head football coach Jim Harbaugh is around. Sheltered, politically correct goons tried to get a showing of “American Sniper” pulled in favor of the movie “Paddington” because Navy SEAL hero Chris Kyle’s life story is allegedly anti-Muslim.

The College Fix reported Wednesday:

A scheduled movie screening of “American Sniper” at the University of Michigan was abruptly cancelled Tuesday after nearly 300 students and others complained the film perpetuates “negative and misleading stereotypes” against Muslims.

“The movie American Sniper not only tolerates but promotes anti-Muslim … rhetoric and sympathizes with a mass killer,” according to an online letter circulated among the campus community via Google Docs that garnered the signatures.

The signers were mostly students, but also some staff, as well as the Muslim Students’ Association and the president of Students Allied for Freedom and Equality, a Palestinian solidarity group at UMich. …

The Center for Campus Involvement did not return multiple phone calls seeking comment, but its official Twitter account noted “Paddington Bear,” a PG-rated movie about a stuffed animal’s misadventures, will be shown instead of “American Sniper.”

Welcome to the modern American college campus, 2015: if your progressive bubble is ever in danger of being popped, then fight like a wolverine to stop the troublesome discourse from ever happening. If you succeed, then retreat into the safety and security of children’s movies like “Paddington.”

PaddingtonMichigan University tried to backpedal early Wednesday and say that “American Sniper” would be shown at a different location, but sometime after the Harbaugh tweet“Michigan Football will watch ‘American Sniper’! Proud of Chris Kyle & Proud to be an American & if that offends anybody then so be it!” — university officials changed their minds.

The Michigan Daily reported Thursday:

After a letter circulated by concerned students caused the University to cancel a showing of the film “American Sniper,” the Center for Campus Involvement will still show the film at its regularly scheduled UMix event Friday night, according to a statement by E. Royster Harper, vice president for student life.

Earlier today, CCI announced the organization would show the film at a separate time, and the film “Paddington” would replace the film’s slot at UMix. However, according to Harper, the movie will be shown at the originally scheduled location at UMix, along with the alternative “Paddington” movie. “Paddington” will be screened at another location on campus.

“It was a mistake to cancel the showing of the movie “American Sniper” on campus as part of a social event for students,” she said. “The initial decision to cancel the movie was not consistent with the high value the University of Michigan places on freedom of expression and our respect for the right of students to make their own choices in such matters.”

Translation: It’s unfortunate that social media allowed millions of Americans to expose our “Paddington” switcheroo before it happened, but now that it’s done we’ll show Clint Eastwood’s hit film. We would have gotten away with it, too — if it hadn’t been for you meddling kids!

American Sniper Bradley CooperIf this sort of behavior was an isolated case on college campuses, then it wouldn’t be a problem. Unfortunately, today’s universities are teeming with wannabe censorship cops who are eager to get their hands on the levers of power. All one has to do stick around Twitter long enough and ask its moderators why the “We will kill you — death to America” crowd is able to issue threats of violence with impunity. When you get your account suspended, then you’ll know what I’m talking about.

The world needs more men like Chris Kyle and Jim Harbaugh, but what we’re seeing now is a prevalence of future police state overseers disguised as innocent “Paddington” bear movie watchers.

  1. They say AS is bad, but Paddington is no better. Not only is it racist (“darkest Peru”, seriously????), but it’s species-ist too! Those poor bears, brainwashed into Britain-lovers by the evil whitey colonizer. Also, if you squint, the filmmakers squeeze in a bit of anti-actuary rhetoric.

In all seriousness, Students Allied for Freedom and Equality. More than a bit of a misnomer, isn’t it? Makes me shiver a little.
