Manuel Martinez
Mr. Manuel Martinez will never be on certain cable networks known for their liberal word view. He will not be on the cover of left-leaning news magazines. His name will not trend on Twitter with people who seek strict gun control measures after every high profile shooting, and he will not be invited to swanky parties in Washington, D.C. with Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. But Martinez’s story is important.

Daylight Disinfectant writes on YouTube:

Mr. Martinez escaped the brutal Communist regime in Cuba in 1954. His testimony included how citizens under Castro were first disarmed by legislation similar to that being shepherded along by Gun-Grabber in Chief Floyd Prozanski. Defenseless, many Cuban Citizens were later summarily slaughtered.

Having been present at the testimony, I can assure you even the liberal hacks in the press pool were visibly shaken. The expressions on the Senators faces … well they spoke for themselves (you can see them at the end of the video). I’d wager no one in room did not feel a chill up their spine, or a tear in the corner of their eye, as Martinez described scenes of sons being torn from their mothers arms, and shot dead in the street, because they lacked the means to protect themselves. He spoke from the heart: no notes or teleprompter required.

Here is a small portion of Mr. Martinez’s testimony. I invite you to watch it in its entirety.

“In 1959 a revolution of malicious individuals, masquerading as Democrats,.. established a regime, … a dictatorial regime in my nation called Communism, Socialism, Stalinism, Marxism, and whatever other named “ism” you want to put on it. The reason why it was done was to take away the guns from the people. … [The right to bear arms] is a God-given right. It’s not given by anybody. It’s not given by any group. … Absolutely nobody has the authority to take it away. … I’ve been through it. I’ve been there. You people don’t know what freedom is because you’ve never lost it.

You haven’t been tortured. You haven’t seen assassinations. You haven’t seen mothers begging for the life of there son because the only reason they want is to be free. And they killed the mothers and they killed the son… If we keep tumbling with the Second Amendment we are open the same way Cuba was open for Communism, China, Poland, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Venezuela — on and on. A tortuous regime will destroy this country in the same way they destroyed those I mentioned to you. … I came here for freedom. At the time, this country was different. This country opened its arms for me. … If they had not opened their arms for me I probably would not be here today. I hope that I’m clear with you and you understand my point of view.”

Please watch the video. It is incredibly powerful in ways the text could never capture.

I have no words. It brings a tear to your eye and a lump in your throat. Mr. Martinez is more of an American than many, many, many other Americans that were born and raised in the U.S. If I ever met this guy I think I’d give him the longest hug I’ve given anyone in years because he gets what’s at stake.

God bless you, Mr. Martinez. You’re a true patriot.

Push your fingers up against your nose, you moron.
Push your fingers up against your nose to try and hide your shame, you moron.  Read from your script like an android and call for the next witness with your “smart” glasses pushed up tight, you twit. You’ve just been hit with an intellectual sledgehammer by a Cuban immigrant who is more American than you’ll ever be.

  1. Hello, I am Scot Bellavia and I go to Cedarville University, in Ohio, majoring in Political Science. I am going to be spending next semester in Washington DC and will be interning somewhere and taking classes with a group from my school. I graduated with your cousin, and he gave me some information of where I could apply for an internship and he mentioned your name at the Washington Times. We also will be housed at the Heritage Foundation, where he said you used to work. I wondered if you knew any openings at the Times and if you would allow me to use your name on the application. Thank you very much for your time and I hope you have a good day.

    1. Hi Scot,

Given that I do not know you, there really wouldn’t be any instances where it would be appropriate to use my name as a reference. I can not vouch for you personally or professionally at this time. Usually, most internships are finalized months in advance. If you email me at dernst@washingtontimes.com I will gladly touch base with you if any departments begin looking for an intern.

I do not know your personal politics, but if they are in tune with Heritage then you might want to try Leadership Institute or the Family Research Council.

I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

    2. I appreciate your honesty, knowledge, and help. I will look into the places you mentioned. Thank you very much.

  2. This man’s stories of oppression are horrifying. It sickens me that braid-dead retards like Doug are so intent on arming civilian revolutionaries so that they can overthrow our democratically elected government. That’s what the conservatives want. By their own admission they want to arm revolutionary militias in order to one day overthrow our democratic government if they disagree with what it’s doing. Make no mistake, if a Communist faction is ever able to establish a dictatorship in the United States it will be because conservative idiots like Doug have spent so many years ensuring that every gang of wanna-be Lenins was so well equipped. I wonder if Doug will still think guns are “cool” when it’s HIS mother taken to the rape rooms, HIS father being dumped into a mass grave and HIM being tortured to death under the orders of a revolutionary regime that he himself helped arm?

I wouldn’t be surprised if this coward takes a page out of the playbook of his revolutionary Communist brothers and censors my criticisms.

    1. I’m such a revolutionary Communist that I enlisted in the U.S. military at 18. And then I worked for an organization for three years that was despised by the Soviets and is today despised by China. And then I posted your insane rambling.

And I’m such a “coward” that I blog using my real name, post pictures of myself and talk about my personal life. I wish I was brave like … the anonymous concerned American.

      Classic.

    2. “Concerned’s” comments have to be just about the dopiest thing I’ve read in a long, long time. Thanks for the chuckle!

  3. I smell a Lizard cloaked in anonymity here.

Here in Vermont, there are NO state gun laws. We also have one of the lowest crime rates in the nation.

    Suck on that, Lie-berals.

    1. Jim, you’re killing me brotha! You’re making me defend Lizard. Wasn’t him. He’s usually annoying, but he’s not insane.

See, unlike him I don’t say things like he “may” be sane. I actually think he is sane. We just disagree on … mostly everything.

  4. Yeah, thanks for the chuckle, Concerned! I’ve never seen something that dopey before in my life. Well, actually, I have, but this really takes the cake!

  5. I see no one can counter my actual arguments. Just bring up crime statistics(which have what to do with tyrannical Communism exactly?) calling me a “dope” and a “lie-beral”(clever) Doug may not be a Communist, but he is their “brother” in that he shares their long-term goal of overthrowing our democratically-elected, Constitutionally-derived federal government.

“A revolution is certainly the most authoritarian thing there is; it is the act whereby one part of the population imposes its will upon the other part by means of rifles, bayonets and cannon — authoritarian means, if such there be at all; and if the victorious party does not want to have fought in vain, it must maintain this rule by means of the terror which its arms inspire in the reactionists. Would the Paris Commune have lasted a single day if it had not made use of this authority of the armed people against the bourgeois? Should we not, on the contrary, reproach it for not having used it freely enough? ”
    -Friedrich Engels

“citizens exercising their right to determine when, how and if they defend themselves are one of the best bulwarks against tyranny a nation can have”
    -Douglas Ernst

At least Communists like Engels have the intellectual honesty to state what they’re advocating forthright, as opposed to right-wing extremist idiots like Doug who use euphemisms like “defending themselves” when they want to glamorize murdering police officers and other public servants.

    1. When I enlisted in the military I took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. While I no longer serve, my fidelity to the country’s founding principles remains rock solid.

You call me a coward, and yet you hide behind your “Concerned American” avatar. No wonder why: You have a penchant for making a complete ass out of yourself.

I do not plan — or even hope — for a revolution. What kind of sick American would ever dream of taking up arms against his brothers? Regardless, should the day ever come when one is necessary, I will be ready and willing to secure the blessings of liberty for future generations:

“Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security,” (The Declaration of Independence).

I suppose the Founding Fathers were Communists too, if one were to use your logic.

And I also see that prudence escapes you. After making a laughing stock out of yourself the first time around, you came back for more and didn’t think to choose your words more carefully. What a shame.

You have obviously been reading for awhile, or Googling my work since you’re digging out old posts. Good. It means that I am in your head. It means that this “right wing extremist” has a hold of your (limited) mental capacities. I learned from studying the best and brightest of the “right wing extremists” over the years, among them George Washington.

You are a clown. You will likely always be a clown. Regardless, I would willingly serve my country all over again, even if I was to preserve freedom and individual liberty for ungrateful uneducated drones like you.

I am the sheep dog. You are the sheep. Now go back to the flock while I protect you from the wolves.

    2. LOL, somehow my argument has morphed from “any future Communist regime within the United States will likely be the result of a well-armed civilian militia rising against the democratically elected government of the people” all the way to “anyone who has ever staged a revolution for any reason in history ever is a Communist” Oh well, attacking straw men is usually a good strategy for those too intellectually feeble to construct actual arguments.

  6. No one here is glamorizing the killing of public servants, so that renders your “point,” such that is, moot. And people do have the right to defend themselves as opposed to letting themselves be killed. If someone is trying to kill you, you have to the right to fight back.

    1. I suggest “Concerned American” tattoo “I do not believe in the Second Amendment” to his forehead and put a similar identifier on the front door of his house. Then we’ll see how long he calls self defense a euphemism for “Communist revolution.”

  7. Newsflash: NRA and other right-wing idiots join rogue states Iran, Syria, and North Korea in their opposition to a UN treaty which would prevent guns from getting into the hands of overseas terrorists. That’s right, the NRA is now protecting the “gun rights” of INTERNATIONAL TERRORISTS. Gee, I guess that the patriotic NRA crowd are worried that an overreaching, tyrannical American government might try to violate the rights of Al-Qaeda members by hunting them down and arresting them! I hope the devil has a special warm place in hell reserved for f***-wits like Wayne LaPierre.

    1. I’m glad you have so much faith in the United Nations. They did such a good job with that Oil for Food scandal. Now it sits helplessly by while Iran moves closer to attaining nukes, and it watches while North Korea thumbs its nose at the world and Assad slaughters his own people. That same U.N. that puts places like Iran at the head of human rights committees.

Regardless, thug regimes are smart enough to know a grab on sovereignty when they see it. While I haven’t read the treaty (I doubt you have either), I’m suspecting that’s the case. At one time free societies like the U.S. had citizens who understood the importance of sovereignty, too. Now it’s populated with guys like you.

      Goodbye, sheep.

  8. Doug,

My parents are from the Soviet bloc; my dad got out legally but my mom had to defect. People who have seen a little more of the world beyond America know that freedom is precious and that “Second Bill of Rights” entitlement ideas destroy true liberty. And that liberty must sometimes be defended at gunpoint.

That clown doesn’t understand the first thing about Communist principles, society, or history, or he wouldn’t be trying to be so clever while revealing his total ignorance.

I love your blog (I even read all the way backwards to this entry), keep it up!

    1. Thanks for the comment, Inez! You’re pretty darn sharp, so that’s a mighty compliment. I’m going to have to up my game if I know you’re keeping tabs.
