Almost a decade ago Mark Steyn wrote ‘America Alone.’ In it, he detailed the shifting demographics of Europe, and predicted that our British friends were in for a rude (Islamic) awakening. The official data on low birth rates among native Brits and high birth rates among throngs of Islamic immigrants was all there for everyone to see, but only Steyn was mapping out the trajectory for 10, 20, and 30 years down the road.

The 2005 London terrorist attacks should have been a wake up call for the world — but they weren’t. The clerics who now live off taxpayers while calling the cash they receive “Jihad Seeker’s Allowance” should send up red flags —but they won’t. Instead, if we fast-forward through time it seems increasingly plausible that more and more free men will wave the white flag of liberal moral relativism until one day they wake up and realize what’s been lost.

As London’s cleric Anjem Choudary puts it:

“Now we are taking over Birmingham and populating it. … Brussels is 30 percent, 40 percent Muslim and Amsterdam. Bradford is 17 percent Muslim. … These people are like a tsunami going across Europe. And over here we’re just relaxing, taking over Bradford brother. The reality is changing.”

Indeed. For the first time in history, less than 50 percent of London is white (although, the better description is “less than 50 percent of London is culturally British in the traditional sense of word”).

More than 600,000 white British Londoners have left the capital in a decade.

Census figures show that between 2001 and 2011 the level of ‘white flight’ reached 620,000.

It is the equivalent of a city the size of Glasgow — made up entirely of white Britons – moving out of the capital.

The figures, reported by the BBC yesterday, mean that for the first time, white Britons are now in a minority in the country’s largest city.

Britain’s problem isn’t its changing pigmentation; its problem is that it let wave after wave of immigrants come in who despised everything it stood for. They disdainfully refer to Englishmen and non-believers as “kuffar” … they take the social safety net and openly discuss using it to strangle the society that provides it. They use the abundance of freedom and liberty that Western Civilization helped to flourish across the world as weapons in their war to destroy it.

The common tactic used to try and shut up men like Mark Steyn is to accuse them of demonizing all Muslims, which is odd since it is the radical Muslim clerics who demonize the vast majority of non-Muslims.

“You must hate in your heart — Cameron, Obama, all that they worship. … Democracy, freedom, secularism, the parliament, all the MPs and the Presidents, all the kuffar’s ideas, everything the people worship, we have to believe that they are bad and we have got to reject them. … Reject them with our tongue. Reject them with our heart. In our heart have hatred towards them,” (Cleric Anjem Choudary).

Ask yourself: As a free man, is there any majority-Muslim country you’d want to spend the rest of your life in? Think of the freest nations in the world. Are any of them Muslim? Think about Egypt under the Muslim Brotherhood. Syria. Iran under Ahmadinejad and the mullahs. Saudi Arabia. Pakistan. Afghanistan. Somalia.

Sadly, entire generations of children born into Western Civilization have been beaten over the head with the skeletons in its closet by Progressive educators and politicians. Americans and Brits are taught a weird self-loathing, which translates into an ambivalence or hostility towards the greatest culture (warts and all) mankind has ever known. And so they sit idly by while it’s torn to shreds by actors who seek to enslave our children and grandchildren.

It’s sad. And worse, the pain and misery that will bestow future generations is entirely predictable. How that hurt specifically manifests itself might be unknown, but a wide variety of seeds have been planted, watered and tended to. Now, it’s just a matter of time until we see which will break the surface and thrive in the environment we have created for them.

    1. I was able to travel all around Europe years ago, but I never got to London. We’ll see if I get around to it, but like you my desire just isn’t really there anymore.

  1. I wonder if increased immigration rates of Muslims has anything to do with the Middle East and Africa being endless warzones where western nations compete with China and Russia for resources.

    1. not all, or even a majority, of Muslims are religious extremists. there are over 2 billion muslims. your demographic scare mongering is just that.

    2. I’ll remember this comment next time I post on social issues and you imply that born again Christians are watching and waiting for the opportunity to force us all to pray in school and in the workplace.

Regardless, as usual you try to divert attention from the main point. It doesn’t matter what the vast majority of Muslims are if they habitually allow themselves to live under tyranny. It doesn’t matter what the vast majority of Muslims are if they zip their lips (partly out of fear) while the most radical elements cause death and destruction in the name of Islam. Have you looked into the assassinations of sane Afghans lately? It’s frightening. I completely understand why many good Muslims would put their head down. The alternative is to get it chopped off. But that still doesn’t excuse them for the consequences of their inaction.

While you seem content to blame Russia or China or (fill in the blank) for the pathetic state of affairs the Muslim world finds itself in, I’m inclined to believe it has much more to do with a religion that is tyrannical at its core. What does Islam mean? “Submission.” The religious and the political are linked. There is no separation. It’s exactly the type of thing guys like you try to say about Christianity. You’ll bend over backwards to play apologist for one religion — the one that actually has clowns who seek to take away your freedoms and liberties through violent measures — and then attack another religion that is so “dangerous” that it did absolutely nothing to stop a man like President Obama from getting elected to the highest office in the land … twice. Roe vs. Wade has been around for decades. Your sister can have an abortion. Nobody can stop her from taking birth control or using condoms. Her sex ed teacher gets to use bananas as props. No one has banned YouTube. Porn is readily available. And so on, and so on.

The idea that the Muslim world is exploited by other countries is rather condescending as well. It implies that its political leaders are just too stupid to stop it or that its culturally inferior. I would assert that it is culturally inferior to Western Civilization, particularly when it comes to political and economic freedom, but I would not argue that Russia and China are to blame for the Muslim world’s wretchedness.

Urg. Now you have me defending Putin and Communist China. I feel dirty.

    3. Your argument here actually weakens the main thrust of your post. Mulsims moving to London show the very action you are asking of them. They are leaving the corrupt governments of their former countries. Muslim immigrants aren’t moving to London to effect some secret Muslim crusade by way of birthrates. They want a better life than what their former country offered.

    4. Thanks for the recommendation. In my Amazon queue now. However, like you, I have about a dozen books ahead of it. Perhaps more Muslims will throw of their shackles of submission and become freethinkers like Ayaan.

  2. Why are you making this bizarro assertion that there is some great Muslim threat in England? 4.8% of the UK are Muslim (as of the 2011 UK Census). How is that magically a precursor to a UK civil war?

4.8% That’s less than 1 out of 20. Maybe Alexander the Great might make something of the odds, but the reversal of the Battle of Gaugamela isn’t going to happen anytime soon in London.

And Doug… “Britain’s problem isn’t its changing pigmentation; it’s problem is that it let wave after wave of immigrants come in who despised everything it stood for.”

That’s poppycock. From YOUR OWN ARTICLE:

“Behind white Britons, the largest ethnic group in London is now Asians – including those born here and those arriving from overseas – who make up 18 per cent of the population.
Black Londoners – including Africans, black Britons and those from the Caribbean – make up 13 per cent.”

    White British: 44.9%
    Other white: 14.9%
    Asian: 18.4%
    Black: 13.3%
    Arab: 1.3%
    Mixed race: 5%

Where are these magical boogeymen Muslims? Asians and Black Londoners? I think they would like to dispute your broad stroke, Doug.

Basically, the whole premise of your article is an grossly inflated phantom threat about a tiny sliver of the population of the UK presenting an imminent threat. If you want to write articles about how much you dislike Muslims, that’s your prerogative, but “civil war?” Come on.

    1. In many stats Pakistanis are considered “Asian.” England has had a flood of Muslim immigrants and it’s changing London. And not necessarily for the better. That’s because England is filled with a bunch of dhimmis.

Do you really think I believe there will be a civil war in England in ten or even twenty years? Maybe I should write headlines that no one clicks on like the vast majority of think tanks. Regardless, Muslims are the ones having babies in the England. Nobody else is, in terms of actually growing the population. I believe in the next 50 years England will see a radical transformation in its culture unless its population gets its head out of its ass.

    2. Pakistanis? Are we talking ethnicity or religion? Because if we are talking the “future Muslim birthrate tidal wave” Steyn was fretting about, let’s talk recent figures.

Percentage of Population by Religion, Borough

      Christian: 52%
      Buddhist: 1%
      Hindu: 5%
      Jewish: 2%
      Muslim: 13%
      Sikh: 1%
      Any other religion: 2%
      No religion at all: 24%

      City of London
      Christian: 29%
      Buddhist: 0%
      Hindu: 0%
      Jewish: 32%
      Muslim: 18%
      Sikh: 0%
      Any other religion: 0%
      No religion at all: 20%

I think atheism poses a far greater threat to Christianity (let’s be honest, that’s the real bulwark against Islam Steyn, and by extension, you, supports). In fact, at the rate atheism is growing in the UK (and in the US), it may just counteract the Muslim threat altogether. Those with no religion have little tolerance for religion being forced upon them, by the sword or door-to-door proselytizing.

I gave Hitchen’s take a read and while somewhat critical, he agrees mostly.

  3. Lightbringer, the problem with your argument is that atheists tend not to have many children. Religious believers of all stripes tend to have more children, and while the number of non-Muslim religious believers in England is dropping, the number of Muslim believers is growing, steadily.

By the way, Muslims were only 2.7% of the population in 2001, so in ten years’ time their share of the population grew by 78%.

    1. Thanks for taking the time to read and comment, Lawrence. I like how Lightbringer completely dismisses the idea that there are Muslims in the U.K. that want to completely change the country’s culture — just below Cleric Anjem Choudary stating exactly those intentions…

This post was written in February, 2013. We have now fast-forwarded in time, and world events are rather telling. I suppose the rise of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant in the heart of the Middle East also means nothing…

    2. Yeah, I don’t get Lightbringer’s dismissal of that, either. He’s a hypocrite, as I’ve said before. He flips out when you talk about radical Islamists who want to change the UK’s culture but if you call him out on his Evangelical take-over-the-world conspiracy BS he’ll get all defensive and call you (or rather, me) an “ignorant troll.” Lightbringer is a lot like my sister in some ways: both think that Islamist terrorism “is no big deal” and that Christians (in their minds) pose a bigger threat. It’s a ridiculous but sadly prevalent view.

    1. It’s getting to be like that here as well, Andrew. People are afraid to say anything because they’re afraid of being called “Islamophobic.” It’s sad.

  4. I know for a while, CAIR’s Twin Cities Branch and the DOJ were both talking about investigating the City of St. Anthony when residents blocked the construction of a mosque there (on or near the site of the long-demolished Apache Mall), claiming it was based on “Islamophobia” or some such nonsense. That was a couple of years ago and I haven’t heard anything about it since then.
